The Toulouse Ours take the five hour bus ride February 3 to Aix-en-Provence to face the Aix Argonautes as both teams open the 2024 FFFA D1 Elite season.
The Argonautes finished the 2023 campaign with a 2-8 record while Toulouse wound up second in the South conference with a 7-2-1 record, earning a berth in the Wild Card playoffs where they were defeated by the Tours Pionniers.
Toulouse won both games between the two teams in 2023, 17-7 and 7-0.
Argonautes first-year head coach Emmanuel Maguet has coached both with the Marseille Blue Stars and the French National team. He has recruited several new French players from the area including defensive back Chady Abdel Aal and linebacker Pierre Moreno.
Maguet’s squad is reinforced by quarterback Derek Green (Long Island University) who played in the Italian Football League last season. Green is the son of NFL quarterback Trent Green. The talented American quarterback will aim to lean on running back Antoni Giglio and receiver Valentine Tellier. The team has added Canadian offensive lineman, Tyler Clucas-Warren from Saint Mary’s University. Defensively, they have brought in GFL standout linebacker Jaymn Haddad.
The Ours are led by head coach Stephane Murat for the 2024 season. On defense they bring back linebacker Dorian Longhini and wide receiver Louis Salvagniac. Murat has also been on the recruiting trail signing several new French offensive linemen and ex-national kicker Alexandre Sy.
Although they have not announced the signing of any import players it is rumored by French football page HLSEU that they have signed quarterback Norman Douglas Jr. Douglas Jr. spent time as a backup at Jackson State with Deion Sanders and had two Juco stops as well as a season at Edward Waters NAIA.
