LIVESTREAM: France – Semifinal – Asnieres Molosses @Thonon Black Panthers, June 16 7p (1p EST)
The 9-1 Thonon Black Panthers who finished first in the Fédération Française de Football Américain (FFFA) top league, play host to the fourth place, 6-3-1 Asnieres Molosses in the FFFA semifinals today, June 16.
The only loss that the Black Panthers suffered in France this year was to Asnieres, 20-13 on March 31.
These two teams faced each other in the 2014 French final with Thonon winning the title 35-34 after a last second defensive stand on a two-point conversion.
After dropping their first two games of 2018, the Molosses went on a tear winning five of six games and tying the sixth. They finally lost to the La Courneuve Flash but finished the season with a solid 41-33 victory of the Saint-Ouen Cougars to clinch a playoff berth.
Thonon finished the season with the top offense and best defense in France scoring 314 points in 10 games while giving up 10.4 per game. Asnieres’s numbers were more modest as they scored 27.2 points per game while allowing 19.5.
Kyle Boehm of the Thonon Black Panthers finished as the 2nd leading passer with 1,959 yards and a league-best 23 TDs. Camille Thouary of the Asnieres Molosses wound up 5th with 1,544 yards. WR Jeff Alexandre of the Black Panthers was the 2nd leading receiver with 638 yards and 9 TDs while teammate Benjamin Plu took over the number 5 spot on the final day of play finishing with 450 yards and 7 TDs.
Molosses WR/QB Jordan Moore finished the year as the rushing leader in France with 822 yards rushing.
In the Molosses win over Thonon earlier in the year, wide receiver Cheikhou Sow did most of the damage, catching four passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns. However, in the last three games of the year for Asnieres, Ralph Rosalie has been deadly catching a total of 286 yards in passes while scoring five touchdowns.
Nevertheless, this is Thonon’s fifth appearance in six years in the playoffs so that edge in experience could make a difference.
