The Thonon Black Panthers (4-1) will play host to the La Corneuve Flash (5-0) as the Northern conference of the French D1 Elite enters the sixth round of play Saturday, March 15.

These two teams met in the opening round of play with the Flash coming away with a slim 6-5 victory.

After the opening day loss, Thonon came back a week later with a 10-8 win over newcomers to the league this year, the Villepinte Diables Rouges. In week 3, the Black Panthers rolled over the Cougars 56-0 and then handed the Leopards a 45-0 drubbing. Last weekend, the Black Panthers found themselves trailing the Asnieres Molosses with two minutes left but behind mounted a last minute drive and scored with 39 seconds left to win the game 28-27.

Following the opening day victory over the Black Panthers 6-5 La Courneuve then defeated the Molosses 22-12 in Week #2. The Flash then blanked the Rouen Leopards 34-0 before getting by the Diables Rouges 16-7. They then easily handled the Saint-Ouen Cougars 51-0 a week ago.

Black Panthers quarterback Jose Tabora Jr. is third leading passer in France having thrown for 853 yards and 11 touchdowns. His main target has been Pierre Yves Dayres who has 18 receptions for 241 yards and three touchdowns. Joseph Mouynol leads the team in rushing with 37 carries for 212 yards and four touchdowns. Other weapons include always-dangerous tight end Odell Turnbull along with receiver Liam Ward.

For the Flash, Leo Cremades is likely behind center and has completed 41 of 72 passes for 546 yards and six touchdowns with his favorite target, Yannis Soummar having caught 10 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns. However, last week, Paul Durand stepped in at quarterback and threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns in the win over the Cougars. La Corneuve running back Jason Bofunda is the second leading running back in the league after having rushed for 342 yards and three scores.

This game will be a treat to watch.
