The league-leading unbeaten St. Ouen l’Aumône Cougars (3-0) will play host to the 1-2 Asnieres Molosses Sunday as the French League of American Football (FFFA – Fédération Française de Football Américain) approaches the midpoint of the season.
St. Ouen suffered through a dismal season in 2017 after losing their starting quarterback late in the year. With this season’s start they seem to be back on track. The winners of the 2015 and 2016 French titles are looking like a contender again.
The Cougars have the best offense in France so far this year having scored an average of almost 39 points a game. Quarterback Jonathan Baker has thrown for 687 yards and seven touchdowns in the three games against only one touchdown. Running back Isaac Amoako has rushed for 171 yards and another two touchdowns.
The Molosses have returned to the top league in France after a two year absence. They fell out in 2015 after finishing with a 3-7 record. Although they opened the season with two losses, a 20-6 loss to the Marseille Blue Stars and a 29-3 loss to the La Courneuve Flash, they rebounded last week, blanking the Rouen Leopards 36-0. Nevertheless, Asnieres has only managed to score 45 points in the three contests.
The Cougars are playing with confidence and the Molosses is playing on the road. After the Thonon Black Panthers defeated the Marseille Blue Stars to stay unbeaten, look for the Cougars attempt to remain the second undefeated team in France.
