LIVESTREAM: France – Amiens Spartiates @Asnieres Molosses, Feb. 23, 7:30 CEST (1:30 EST)
The unbeaten Asnieres Molosses (2-0) are looking every bit the contender so far in the young French season and will play host to the 0-1 Amiens Spartiates Saturday, February 23 in the third weekend of action in the FFFA – Fédération Française de Football Américain.
The Molosses, semifinalists in 2018, opened the season with a convincing 20-7 win over the Saint-Ouen Cougars and then followed that up with a hard-fought 9-2 victory over the defending champions, the La Courneuve Flash.
The Molosses are playing without imports so young French QB, Camille Thouary leads the offense and has a corps of excellent receivers including Ralph Rosalie and Samuel Beke. He opened the season against the Cougars impressively with 230 yards passing and three touchdowns in the air. However, the Flash held him to 55 yards. Can he rebound against the Amiens defense?
The Molosses defense was the deciding factor in the win against La Courneuve as defensive back Adel Bafdile returned an interception for the game-winning touchdown.
The Spartiates’ opening game was postponed due to weather. They then dropped a 10-0 decision to the Cougars with all 10 points being scored in the fourth quarter. Young French quarterback (Amiens are also playing without imports) Clément Schaeffer completed just 7 of 26 passes for 101 yards in the loss and was sacked twice and hurried many more times. He will be in tough against the Molosses stingy defense. Amiens running backs gained 51 yards against Saint-Ouen and will be facing perhaps the toughest front seven in France.
This could be a long day for the Spartiates.
