The St. Ouen l’Aumône Cougars (3-1-1) play host to the Aix-en-Provence Argonautes (1-3) Sunday, April 1 in a game the Cougars need to win to keep pace in France’s top league.
The second place Cougars have not won a game since March 3 when they beat the La Courneuve Flash 30-20. Since then, they have tied the Molosses 7-7 and then lost to the league-leading Thonon Black Panthers 31-12.
Meanwhile, the Argonautes are suffering through a tough season losing their last three games which includes a 32-0 shutout loss to the Marseilles Blue Stars. In those losses, they have surrendered an average of almost 33 points a game.
Cougars quarterback Jonathan Baker has thrown for 880 yards and eight touchdowns in the five games St. Ouen has played. Running back Isaac Imoako leads the team with 184 yards rushing while Baker’s favorite receiver, Enzo Fraioli has caught 21 passes for 310 yards and one touchdown.
Niko Fortino, quarterback for Aix-en-Provence, has not had an easy time of it having thrown for 539 yards in four games and six touchdowns. Leading rusher for the Argonautes has been Corentin Ducatillon who has rushed for 162 yards while the leading receiver, Aymeric Nicault has caught 15 passes for 164 yards. Kwessi James is not far behind with 155 yards in receptions and three touchdowns.
The Cougars, who won back-to-back French titles in 2015 and 2016, are looking to return to championship form.
