The Sportmonda International Flag Tournament, Sportmonda Bowl VII, which takes place this weekend in Denmark and will be shown in its entirety on AFI.tv, is billed as one of the largest flag tournaments in northern Europe and possibly the biggest in the world prior to the IFAF World Flag Football Championships set for December in Israel.
A total of 30 teams from across Europe will compete in four different categories, Elite Men and Elite Ladies as well as Leisure Men and Leisure Ladies.
The tournament will feature some of the finest flag football teams in Europe including six defending national team champions.
Sportmonda Bowl VII – August 7,10:00 CET (10 am, 04:00 am ET), August 8 09:00 CET (9 am, 03:00 am ET)
The Armadillos from Denmark are three-time winners of the Sportmonda Bowl with a record six appearances in the final. The team boasts several members of Team Denmark, five-time winners of the European championships. Another Danish team, the Towers, has won both Sportmonda and the Big Bowl, one of the biggest tournaments in Europe.
Five-time Swedish champions, the 86’ers could be the dark horse of the tournament. Triple Swiss champions, the Blackbirds from Zurich are ranked among the best teams in Europe along with Germany’s Wanderers, and both are competing in Sportmonda Bowl VII. The Wanderers are defending German champions and current Big Bowl title holders. Another German team, Spätzen, are winners of the German university league.
On the women’s side, Austria’s Amazing Amazones have an impressive roster that includes many Team Austria members. The Luftens Helte from Denmark is basically the Danish national team while the Wanderers from Germany normally compete only against male competition in their home country. One interesting entry is JFL Europe, a team composed of players from a variety of countries. This is their first appearance in a tournament.
In addition to the elite teams, Sportmonda Bowl VII also features 13 teams in the Leisure classes. Favorites on the men’s side may well be the Saints from Sweden while for the women, Denmark’s Royals, the host team, and defending Leisure champions, look to be early favorites.
Watch all the action live on AFI.tv starting Saturday, August 7 at 10:00 CET.
