The Seinäjoki Crocodiles (7-4) travel to Porvoo for the final game of Finland’s Maple League regular season to take on the Porvoo Butchers (4-7).
Seinäjoki hopes to bounce back after a tough loss and get ready for an intense playoff matchup that awaits them. Across the field, the Butchers hope to play spoiler and end the season with a celebration in front of their loyal fans.
Seinäjoki Crocodiles @ Porvoo Butchers, August 27th, 15:30 CET, (3:30 pm, 9:30 am ET)
Last weekend, the Crocodiles lost 41-14 to the Roosters in a game that shocked many fans around the country. The Crocodiles’ offense struggled mightily without their star running back Christian Powell. Quarterback Zachary Whitehead was unable to create much offense as their defense let up over 500 yards to a young Roosters team. Needless to say the Crocodiles are hoping to get Powell and their confidence back soon as the playoffs start in a week.
Former “Last Chance U” star and University of Tennessee (NCAA DI) defensive lineman Emmit Gooden was a fellow defensive lineman Arthur Pinheiro and Fillip Zacok will look to contain one of the league’s best running quarterbacks this week. If they can fluster Gwinner the Crocodiles could cruise to victory.
Except the Butchers and quarterback Brandon Gwinner to pull out all the stops today in an attempt to finish the season on a high note. Gwinner is a proven playmaker in the Maple League and will want to leave a strong impression in the last game of the season. Former Tennessee State (NCAA DI FCS) running back Seth Rowland has also become a weapon for th Butchers running for 413 yards in only five games since his late arrival. However, mainstay veteran Mikko Seppanen would be my bet for today’s MVP as the quick pass catcher due for a breakout game.
Defensively, veteran Timi Nuikka, Anthony Figueroa, and the rest of the Butchers will look to make some plays and celebrate a upset in front of their home fans.
