The Seinäjoki Crocodiles (3-2) travel to Kotka to take on the Eagles (0-7) in this Saturday afternoon Finnish Maple League matchup. The visiting Crocodiles are hoping to make the playoffs in late August as they currently sit as the third seed.
The last time these two teams met this season the Crocodiles ran away with it, 67-0.
Seinäjoki Crocodiles @ Kotka Eagles, July 23rd, 15:30 CET, (3:30 pm, 9:30 am ET)
The Crocodiles are coming off a dominant 54-0 win over the UNC Crusaders. In that game, running back Christian Powell was unstoppable once again running for three touchdowns and nearly 100 yards. Quarterback Anthony Whitehead will be looking Powell’s way again today as well as targeting Joel Sarkela and Anttoni Lampivuo.
Former “Last Chance U” star and University of Tennessee (NCAA DI) defensive lineman Emmit Gooden has been a key part of the Crocodiles’ defense. The slender long armed defender is able to slip blocks well and create pressure, along with fellow defensive lineman Arthur Pinheiro and Fillip Zacok. Expect these three to have big games today against a weak Kotka offensive line.
Kotka’s new quarterback Darrien Boone had a tough game last week totaling only 126 yards and one touchdown. Boone was under pressure often and was sacked twice. The former Central Michigan and Austin Peay division one talent is a good athlete who is still building chemistry with his new team as he joined them only two weeks ago. Expect him to target Peter Anderson early and often as he’s been the go-to guy for Kotka all season. Anderson was once again the lone bright spot for Kotka as he racked up seven catches for 121 yards last week.
Defensively, Kotka will hope to compete against a talented Crocodiles offense. Expect veteran Jamarcus Henderson to play well from his defensive end position.
