The Helsinki Roosters (2-1) will travel to visit the Seinäjoki Crocodiles (1-1) in this early season Maple League matchup. The Roosters are looking to capture a much-needed road victory after dropping their season opener. For the Crocodiles, this game gives them a chance to measure themselves against one of the league’s most talented teams.
Helsinki Roosters @ Seinäjoki Crocodiles, June 10, 17:30 CET (5:30pm, 11:30 ET)
The Roosters have a solid run game using both veteran Mourad Diafi and youngster Henri Kassinen. The duo ran for over 100 yards in their last outing behind a physical Helsinki offensive line. Quarterback Bryce Stancombe benefited from a good outing up front finding receivers Aymeric Nicault and Willhem Kajander often. Expect him to look Kajanders way again today as the former track star can get behind safeties quickly.
Defensively homegrown defensive lineman Christer Berg has played well in the Rooster’s first three outings. The National team defender hopes to continue this success against one of the country’s best rushing attacks in Seinäjoki. In the secondary Emory Polley and Nolan Bernat at hope to get their hands on any errand passes as The Crocodiles have been looking for big plays all season.
The Crocodiles‘ offense unsurprisingly has been centered around Christian Powell this year. Powell has been the workhorse back in Seinäjoki since arriving in 2018. The former Colorado Buffalo (NCAA DI) looks be back to his old tricks as one of the leagues leading rushers again this year. Receiver Joel and Janne Sarkela give quarterback Anthony Whitehead two reliable targets to look for deep off of play-action.
Defensively the Crocodiles have Finnish talents Filip Zacok and Saideu Jallow that give the club two young pieces to build around in the front seven. Former “Last Chance U” star and University of Tennesse (NCAA DI) defensive lineman Emmit Gooden also hopes to make more of an impact after a quiet debut last week.
This week five matchup could have playoff implications as both the Crocodiles and Roosters have their eyes on the maple Bowl this season. Expect Seinäjoki to play well at home against a Roosters team far away from the capital city.
