The Nordic U-19 American Football Championships wind up today in Vantaa, Finland as Team Sweden and Finland clash in the final game of the three country tournament involving Finland, Sweden and Denmark.
The host country Finland opened the tournament defeating Team Denmark 56-14 while Sweden downed the Danes 48-13 in the second round.
This tournament has been held every other year since 1999. Sweden has won the title six times including the last four. Team Finland has captured the title four times.
Finland finished second in the 2014 tournament in Bornholm, Denmark after beating Denmark while the Danes defeated the Finns four years ago to finish second after Sweden.
This will be a game of powerful running attacks. Finland’s Karri Pajarinen scored three rushing touchdowns against Denmark in the tournament’s opening game gaining 106 yards on the ground and added a 95 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Quarterback Oscar Drockila threw for 157 yards and another touchdown in the game against Denmark and could be a difference maker against Sweden.He has targets as Markus Haapasaari leads all receivers in the tournament with five catches for 111 yards and two scores.
Sweden’s powerful running back tandem of Calle Goransson and Tengroth Vilinhton caused Denmark all kinds of problems gaining 345 yards between them while scoring three touchdowns. They along with teammate Adam Fahlvik will be tough for Finland to stop.
