The Kotka Eagles will host the Porvoon Butchers in this Friday night Finnish Football matchup.
Both teams are eager to bounce back after week one losses and earn a win tonight.
After years of success in the Finnish 1st division, the Kotka Eagles are finally in the Maple League this year. Fans are excited to see their team at the top level on Kotka’s home turf tonight. The Eagles are led this year by quarterback Chris Forcier. Forcier is a veteran dual-threat passer who can burn teams on the ground and with his arm. The former Furman (NCAA D1) quarterback will look to get the ball to Kotka playmakers Ysuf Lehtinen and Ville Hämäläinen.
Porvoon Butchers @ Kotka Eagles, May 27, 17:30 CET (5:30 pm, 11:30 ET)
Defensively the Eagles are eager to respond after giving up over 40 points last week. Look for import Jamarcus Henderson to make an impact from the defensive line spot.
The visiting Butchers lost a 15-13 heart breaker last week, as Seinäjoki hit a game winning 37-yard field goal with no time remaining. Quarterback Brandon Gwinner aims to build more chemistry with Finnish receivers Mikko Seppänen and converted defender Timi Nuikka. Butchers’ fans are hoping to see their offense click tonight against a Kotka defense that looked poor in week one.
Defensively Porvoon’s do-it-all star Timi Nuikka is a player to watch tonight. He can tackle in space, cover well, and even play offense. Linebacker Dante Edwards is another key piece to the unit. Edwards brings college football experience from Benedictine College (NAIA) and the UK’s Leeds Beckett University.
Kotka hopes to play well in front of their home fans after a disappointing season opener. Across the field the Butchers also lost week one, but have a chance to build off of what was a hard fought contest.
