The 3-0 Warsaw Eagles will host the 3-0 Bydgoszcz Archers  Saturday, May 18 in a battle of ESL West unbeaten teams at the midway point of the European Super League season.

The Eagles have waltzed through the first half of the ESL season scoring 162 points and not allowing a point scored against them. Warsaw downed the Krakow Tigers 49-0, Lithuania’s Vilnius Iron Wolves 38-0 and the Kaunas Dukes, also from Lithuania 75-0. Meanwhile, the Archers have matched them, scoring 152 points with zero points against.  Bydgoszcz (pronounced Bid-gosht) has defeated the Tigers 51-0, the Dukes 47-0 and the Zabki Dukes 54-0.

Eagles HC Kirk Mastromatteo relies on QB Jason Gaines (Hastings College). Gaines led Spain’s Las Rozas Black Demons to the Spanish League of American Football semifinals in 2018. In the win over the Tigers, Gaines threw four touchdown passes and ran another one in. His key receivers are Serbian (Kragujevac Wild Boars)  Matija Almasi, Jan Korkuć and Marcel Smoleń,. RBs Igor Urban and Eryk Dudek give Warsaw a solid running attack. Serbian DL (Indjija Indians) Dusan Novakovic anchors a tough defense.

Mateusz Marciniak, HC of the Bydgoszcz Archers looks to his QB, Canadian veteran Luke Zetaate who has thrown 14 TD passes so far. His leading targets are Jakub Kubacki (3 TDs), Mikolaj Obreski (4 TDs) and Kornel Witkowski (2 TDs). Jakub Kubacki has scored 6 TDs.

This is definitely the game of the season in the ESL.
