LIVESTREAM: ECTC – Badalona Dracs (Spain) @Triangle Razorbacks (Denmark), Sat. May 18, 4:30p CEDT (10:30a EDT)
Spanish defending champions, the Badalona Dracs, head up to Denmark to take on the Triangle Razorbacks in the final round of action in the European Club Team Competition Central conference, Saturday, May 18.
The Dracs lost to the Dacia Vienna Vikings from Austria, 38-8 while Triangle were beaten badly 60-0 by the powerful Vikings. This means of course that both teams have been eliminated from further play in the ECTC.
The Razorbacks announced that they have a new head coach suddenly midway through the season as Peter Nicolajsen, who was the offensive coordinator, has taken over from Kristian Worm who was forced to step down for personal reasons. Nicolajsen will be assisted by Kim Ewé .
How Nicolajsen can affect the performance of the Razorbacks remains to be seen. Since the embarrassing loss to Vienna in early April, the team has won a pair of games, one against the Frederikssund Oaks 33-14 and the other, under Nicolajsen, a 58-0 blowout of the Odense Badgers.
Badalona has marched through the Spanish playoffs and last weekend disposed of the Murcia Cobras 40-20 in the semifinals and will play the Spanish title game next week against the Las Rozas Black Demons. Badalona QB Hunter Correll leads an offense that is averaging 52 points a game while the defense has been giving up just 7.3 in the Spanish league. His top receiver, Guillem García led the league in scoring. Another key to the Dracs offense is WR Taylor Ekström.
