Livestream: Dresden Monarchs Battle Kiel Baltic Hurricanes
In the second of a two-game, home-and-home series, the Dresden Monarchs will be hosting the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes in Dresden Saturday.
The Hurricanes downed Dresden 35-30 one week ago in front of a wildly cheering home crowd in Kiel, Germany. This time Dresden’s fans will be out in force to cheer on the Monarchs.
This is a key game for both teams in the German North standings. Another win by Kiel gives them a huge advantage over the Monarchs in playoff positioning. A Dresden win however, evens the season series at 1-1 and gives the Monarchs a boost.
Neither team has made many changes heading into today’s matchup. Kiel quarterback Logan Schrader was outstanding completing 23 of 36 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns. Newly acquired running back Chris McClendon was a huge factor in his very first game in Germany, carrying the ball 22 times for 106 yards while catching four passes for 31 yards. Receiver Xavier Mitchell continues to excel for the Hurricanes as he caught 11 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns. He is currently second in receiving in Germany averaging 139 yards a game.
Dresden’s quarterback Brandon Connette leads Germany in passing yardage having thrown for 981 yards in three games. Last week, he threw for 322 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Sebastian Sagne caught seven passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns in a losing cause and leads the league in overall receiving yardage with 382.
The Monarchs will have to improve their running game this week to have a chance to win. They could only muster 31 yards rushing on the day.
