LIVESTREAM DENMARK: Copenhagen Towers @ Aalborg 89ers, August 28, 14:00 CET, (2 pm, 08:00 am ET)
The Copenhagen Towers (3-1) will take on the Aab 89ers (2-2) in this Saturday afternoon Danish Nationalligaen matchup.
After some power shifts in the league, this matchup pits two of the title favorites against each other. Both teams enter today’s game with tons of positive momentum eager to gain the upper hand as the playoffs approach. These teams met to open the season back in May with the Towers winning 38-13. However, expect today’s game to be a much more competitive one as the 89ers have shown a ton of improvement as the season has marched on.
The Towers offense is coming off of a dominant 50-6 win over the Triangle Razorbacks. In their last game, quarterback Randall Schroeder was able to diagnose the defense well and find Jacob Green and Mike Williams often as the passing game clicked. On the ground, Anton Witmeur stole the show last week rushing for 119 yards and four touchdowns. Expect the Towers to rely more on their passing game today as the 89ers have an excellent run-stuffing defensive line.
Copenhagen Towers @ Aalborg 89ers, August 28, 14:00 CET, (2 pm, 08:00 am ET)
Defensively, Copenhagen’s pass rush hopes to get pressure today against a pass-heavy 89ers offense. Defensive linemen Magnus Larsen has been a force getting to quarterbacks consistently all season. In the secondary, Jakob Baekgaard and Kenneth Larsen-Ledetand match up well against the 89ers receiver’s speed. Eivind Rolles is another player to watch as he was all over the field last week, making tackles even an interception last time out.
The 89ers offense looks to put on another show this week after lighting up the Sollerod Gold Diggers in their last performance. Quarterback Shelton Eppler has looked dominant in his last two appearances leading the 89ers to an impressive turnaround. Eppler a former Northwestern State (NCAA D1 FCS) product has thrown for 12 touchdowns and only three interceptions this season. His main targets have been Danish talent Magnus Urth and Thomas Zink Thellufsen. Running back Andreas Brandsen returned to the lineup last week and made quite a splash scoring three touchdowns. Expect him to get plenty of touches again today.
The 89ers defense is led by 6’5 290 pound defensive lineman De’mage Bailey. Bailey, a former Eastern Carolina (NCAA D1) product, is a force in the middle of the defense using his skills and size to get to the quarterback and stuff the opposing running game. Behind Bailey 6’2″ 240 pound linebacker Tobias Fogtmann leads the team with 23 tackles. The two defenders have to step up and play well today against a physical Copenhagen running game.
The 89ers have completely turned around their season after a slow 0-2 start. After two dominant wins, coach Austin Jones’s squad has propelled themselves into the contender category. This week they’ll have a chance to take on the powerhouse Towers as today’s game could be a preview of this year’s Mermaid Bowl.
