The Aarhus Tigers (2-3) head to Vejle, Denmark to face the 3-1 Triangle Razorbacks as the Danish National League hits mid season.
The last time these two teams faced each other was in the 2018 Danish semifinals when the Razorbacks upset the favored Tigers 16-14 to advance to the Mermaid Bowl. So there is a measure of revenge on the part of the Tigers in today’s game.
The Razorbacks lost their last outing, getting beaten by the Sollerod Gold Diggers 40-28 after opening the season with three straight wins. Meanwhile, Aarhus downed the Frederikssund Oaks 48-18 in their last game after losing three in a row, two to the Copenhagen Towers.
The Razorbacks have undergone some upheaval in the past month with the sudden departure of Kristian Worm as head coach after two games. Peter Nicolajsen, who was the offensive coordinator, took over and the team has gone 1-1 since.
The Tigers have added quarterback Isaiah Weed who will be starting his third game for the club and brings a sense of stability to the offense. Since arriving he has thrown eight touchdown passes, three in a loss to the Towers and five in the win over the Oaks. With running back Ricky Stevens in the backfield, Aarhus has a formidable offense.
With the Razorbacks third in the standings behind the Gold Diggers and Towers, they need a win today to keep pace. Meanwhile, Aarhus, currently in fifth, can’t let themselves fall too far behind in the race for a playoff berth.
