The Aarhus Tigers (1-1) will travel to Aalborg, Denmark Monday, April 22 to face the 0-1 Aalborg 89ers in early round action in Denmark’s National League.
These two teams only faced each other once in 2018, a 39-14 victory for Aarhus.
The Tigers are coming off a stinging 40-8 loss to the Copenhagen Towers after opening the season by blanking the Odense Badgers 39-0. Meanwhile, the 89ers battled the Triangle Razorbacks to the end only to lose 46-42.
Aalborg quarterback Alexander Bjerre threw six touchdown passes in the loss to the Razorbacks and with receivers Jacob Callesen and Kasper Kaufmann the offense can pose problems for the Aarhus defense.
The Tigers lost their starting quarterback Tim Morovick for the season in their opening round win over the Badgers and apparently have still not found an import replacement. Troels Andersen filled in in that first game while Jacob Karkov took over in the loss to the Towers and will get the nod again today. Running back Ricky Stevens is always dangerous and lined up in a “Wildcat” formation could cause problems for an 89ers defense that struggled against the Razorback’s outside run.
Although the season is still young, it already is shaping up to be a three-team race in Denmark, with the Towers , Sollerod Gold Diggers and Razorbacks all without a loss. Both Aalborg and Aarhus need a win badly today to keep pace.
