The BC Lions wind up their preseason with a home date against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at BC Place Stadium, Friday, June 9.
Last week, the Lions forced seven turnovers in handing the Calgary Stampeders a 36-23 defeat in Calgary. Meanwhile, Winnipeg took care of the Edmonton Eskimos 33-13 in Winnipeg.
The Lions have not gone undefeated in pre-season play since the 2014 season. This also marks the first pre-season meeting with the Blue Bombers since 2002 when the Lions prevailed 27-4 at BC Place.
BC took two of three regular season meetings from Winnipeg last season, including a thrilling come from behind 42-41 victory on July 21st. In that contest, Travis Lulay helped orchestrate the fourth quarter comeback, one week after Jonathon Jennings went down with his shoulder injury in Hamilton.
In the Lions win over Calgary, rookie quarterback Ricky Lloyd looked sharp, taking the majority of the snaps after replacing an injured Cody Fajardo in the second quarter. The 25-year-old connected on 15 of 23 passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns in his team’s 36-23 victory.
For the Bombers, with starter Matt Nichols out 4-6 weeks with an injury sustained during practice, Winnipeg will be taking an even closer look at the two backups Friday night. One of them will start the season. Last week against Edmonton, Chris Steveler (South Dakota) was a perfect 10 of 10 in passing throwing for 140 yards and one touchdown. Alex Ross struggled completing just one of eight passes for eight yards.
