The Stockholm Mean Machines who are defending Swedish champions will play host to the British title holders, the Manchester Titans in the opening round of the Central European Football League tournament.

The is the second year that Stockholm has competed in the CEFL. In last year’s opening round, they lost a heartbreaker 29-28 to Germany’s Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns on a last second touchdown. The Titans are appearing in the CEFL for the first time.

The Mean Machines have opened their 2024 season in the Swedish Superserien with two straight wins after beating the Örebro Black Knights 39-18 and the Limhamn Griffins 44-14. Manchester have also opened their season in Great Britain’s Premiership after rolling over the Tamworth Phoenix 38-0.

Stockholm quarterback Mateo Renteria leads a potent offense. He has completed 33 of 47 passes for 457 yards and five touchdowns in the two games. His favorite target is Matt Retzlaff who has caught eight of those passes for 130 yards and two scores. The ground game is impressive led by Kasper Wedberg who has rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Oliwer Stedt has rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns while David Ottander has 49 yards on 10 carries scoring two touchdowns as well.

The Titans are led by Britbowl MVP Sam Bloomfield and a wide receiver room featuring Adam Bamber who had a key touchdown catch in the 2023 Britbowl.
