For the second year in a row, the London Warriors and Tamworth Phoenix will square off in the British championship game – Britbowl XXXIII – at New River Stadium in London.
This is the third year in a row that Tamworth has reached the championship final and the second time these two teams have faced each other in Great Britain’s championship final. The Warriors downed Tamworth in last year’s title game 48-34 to win their fifth British title. In 2017, the Phoenix shocked the football community inn the UK by eliminating the Warriors in the semifinal round 38-34, going on to win their very first title beating the London Blitz in the final, 38-34.
The two teams finished first in their respective divisions. Tamworth won the Premiership North with a 9-1 record while the Warriors waltzed through the South unbeaten with a 10-0 record.
Tamworth defeated the London Blitz, the number two team in the South division, 7-6 in the semifinals. Meanwhile, the Warriors destroyed the North’s #2, the Manchester Titans, 63-0.
The Warriors are the heavy favorites in this game with an offense that racked up 611 points in the regular season and a defense that surrendered 3.5 points a game. They defeated their closest rivals, the London Blitz by lopsided scores during the regular season, 46-15 and 54-7. The Phoenix actually lost to Manchester 21-0 before beating them later in the season, 21-17. The Phoenix offense averaged just over 30 points a game.
The Phoenix defense will have to contend with Warriors running backs Raymod Sobowale and Dwayne Watson who, along with quarterback Jerome Allen, can shred opposition front sevens.
