Great Britain’s championship game – Britbowl XXXI – takes place this weekend with the upstart and undefeated (11-0) Tamworth Phoenix taking on the powerful five-time champion London Blitz (10-1) at Sixways Stadium, Warriors Way, Worcester.

This is the 12th straight trip to the championship final for the Blitz. They defeated the Merseyside Nighthawks 54-14 in the semifinal. This marks the first time since 2011 that they will not be facing the London Warriors in the Britbowl. The last time the Blitz won the title game was 2012 when they beat the Warriors 37-21.

For the Phoenix, this is their first-ever appearance in the final after they shocked everyone but themselves by beating the Warriors last weekend 38-34.

The Blitz enter the game as the favorites, but after Tamworth upset the Warriors, the Bltiz may not be as clear favorites as many would think. The Phoenix were the highest scoring team in the nation this year amassing 487 points in 10 games. They also boasted the stingiest defense giving up only 7.8 points a game.

The Blitz played the Warriors three times during the regular season and came out on top twice. They averaged almost 40 points a game during the 10 game regular season while allowing just under 15. Although their numbers were not as gaudy as Tamworth’s, their three meetings against the Warriors were a factor.
