LIVESTREAM BNL Semifinal: Limburg Shotguns @ Amsterdam Crusaders, June 24, 18:00 CET (6 pm, 12 noon EDT)
The BNL league playoffs feature just one game, a single-game knockout Saturday, June 24 between the second place Amsterdam Crusaders and the third place Limburg Shotguns to decide who advances to the championship final to face the first place Brussels Black Angels.
This is the third meeting of the year between these two teams. Amsterdam won the first game 47-12 but the Shotguns gained a measure of revenge with a 23-20 victory a month ago.
Amsterdam looked invincible for much of the year. They opened the season with a 30-12 win over the Kasteel Nitro’s and then followed that up with a 44-0 blanking of the Ghent Gators before beating the Limburg Shotguns 47-10. They beat the Nitro’s again, this time by a score of 38-0 but then ran into a red hot Brussels Black Angels squad who beat them 17-14. After rolling over Ghent again, this time by a score of 52-6, Amsterdam suffered that tight loss to the Shotguns. However, they wound up the year by gaining some revenge by downing Brussels 24-19 in the final regular season game of the year.
This has been an up and down year for Limburg. After opening the season with a lopsided 61-0 win over the Kasteel Nitro’s, they were beaten by Amsterdam and then edged 28-21 by the Brussels Black Angels. They rebounded with a 53-0 victory over Ghent and then beat the Nitro’s 38-0 before earning the inspiring win over the Crusaders. After dropping a 28-13 decision to Brussels, Limburg wound up the season by beating the Gators 44-6.
Amsterdam relies on quarterback Jasper Nijland while running backs Berto Stuit and Mani Blijd anchor the backfield. One of Nijland’s favorite targets is Olivier Lugier who scored all three touchdowns against the Shotguns in the loss.
The Shotguns latest quarterback (Jabari Harris was injured, and Raleigh Yeldell left the team), Oskar Sardyga from Poland, threw three touchdown passes in the win over Amsterdam, two to Juliani Cotin and one to Ansley Kusi. Expect Limburg to stick to a similar game plan.
These two teams know each other well so expect a tight game that will be decided late in the contest.
