The Brussels Black Angels (7-0) travel to Sportpark Sloten in the Netherlands to take on the Amsterdam Crusaders (5-2) in a battle between the two top teams in the BNL league.
The last time these two teams met, the Black Angels came away with a 17-14 victory at home in Brussels.
Amsterdam opened the season with a 30-12 win over the Kasteel Nitro’s and then followed that up with a 44-0 blanking of the Ghent Gators before beating the Limburg Shotguns 47-10. They beat the Nitro’s again, this time by a score of 38-0 and then lost to Brussels. They followed that up with a 52-6 shellacking of Ghent before dropping a 23-20 decision to the Limburg Shotguns on May 20.
Brussels downed the Shotguns 28-21 after blanking the Gators 48-0 and Nitro’s 38-0. Brussels then beat the Crusaders 17-14 before shutting out Ghent 41-0 and Kasteel 48-0. Then last week the Black Angels handed the Shotguns another loss, this time 28-13.
Brussels running back Jimmy Onema is a key but the excellent receiving corps of Terrence Stillwell, Jonathan Leroy, Killian Philips and Laurent Bogaerts can cause problems.
Amsterdam relies on quarterbacks Jasper Nijland and Jordi Anrochte while running backs Berto Stuit and Mani Blijd anchor the backfield. Wideouts Sem Haan and Melvin Maasdamme have been key targets while the defense features defensive back Soufyan Dardour along with linebackers Amir Zahoor and Travis Fraser.
The BNL semifinals will consist of only one game on June 24 as the second place Amsterdam Crusaders will face the third place Limburg Shotguns. The winner will advance to the championship final against the Black Angels.
