The unbeaten Swarco Raiders (5-0) will welcome the second place 4-1 SonicWall Mödling Rangers to Innsbruck’s Tivoli Stadium Saturday, May 18 for a battle for first place in the Austrian Football League.
The Raiders have looked impressive so far in the Austrian Football League season. They opened the year with five straight wins, including a 48-28 victory over arch rivals, the Dacia Vienna Vikings and the latest a 34-27 win over the Graz Giants. Quarterback Sean Shelton has thrown for 988 yards and 14 TDs while rushing for another 245 yards and 4TDs.. He has a lot of weapons at his disposal including Sandro Platzgummer who has rushed for 268 yards. Shelton’s top receiver is Patrick Donahue who has 296 yards in receptions and 3 TDs. Three weeks ago, Swarco disposed of France’s Thonon Black Panthers, beating them 41-7 in Central European Football League action.
Last weekend, Swarco beat up on the Italian champions, the Milano Seamen, 50-23.
The Rangers new quarterback, Tyler Bruggman (Montana State) has the offense performing at a high level since taking over and in two games has thrown for 801 yards and 10 TDs including a six touchdown performance in the 74-49 rout of the Traun Steelsharks. His top receivers are Roman Namdar with 516 yards and Eugen Sumic with 493 yards in receptions and eight touchdowns. Running back Florian Wegan is second in Austria in rushing with 547 yards.
Although the Raiders are undefeated, they have had to battle to down both the Danube Dragons and Graz Giants. Nevertheless, they are playing at Tivoli Stadium where they have not lost a game since April 13, 2013.
