LIVESTREAM: Austria – SonicWall Mödling Rangers @ Swarco Raiders, May 27, 3p (9a EST)
Fresh off of their thrilling 31-27 victory over Central College, the 5-1 Swarco Raiders, Europe #4, return to the field in Innsbruck, Austria to host the visiting 4-3 SonicWall Mödling Rangers in Austrian Football League late-season action.
These two teams faced each other early in the season with Swarco winning comfortably 49-14. The Raiders are also coming off a satisfying 55-13 win over arch rivals the Dacia Vienna Vikings two weeks ago. Meanwhile, the Rangers have suffered two straight defeats leading up to this game, dropping a 25-20 loss to Vienna and then losing 41-31 to the Danube Dragons two weeks ago.
The Raiders offense is on fire averaging 51 points a game while the defense is also tops in Austria giving up 20 points a game. In comparison, Mödling is scoring at a rate of 37 points a game while allowing 32. The only major category in which the Rangers have an edge is rushing. The Rangers are the second leading rushing team in Austria, rushing for 217 yards a game as compared to 190 for Swarco. The Rangers allow 136.7 yards rushing while Swarco gives up 138.8, a negligible difference.
Mödling quarterback Dylan Potts is the second leading passer in the AFL with 1,918 yards passing and his favorite target, Roman Namdar leads all receivers with 936 yards passing. Swarco quarterback Sean Shelton is fourth in passing yardage in Austria with 1,768 yards passing but leads the league in touchdown passes with 25. His leading receiver, Patrick Donahue has caught 17 passes for 426 yards.
For Mödling to have any chance at all in this game, they must find a way to slow down Shelton who reads defenses so well. The game plan for Swarco is not much different. Slow down Potts and stop Mödling .
