The defending champion Danube Dragons (4-3) will host the Salzburg Ducks (3-4) Sunday, June 8 in the second last full weekend of action in the Austrian Football League regular season.
This is the first of two meetings between these two teams.
Danube currently sit at 4-3 after opening the season with a close 14-9 loss to the Vikings, with their wins coming 23-7 over the Raiders and Rangers in a 38-0 shutout. Finally, they were surprised by the Graz Giants last week dropping a 28-7decision to them. They then won back to back games against the Prague Black Panthers, 17-14 and 43-39 before dropping a tough one to Vienna, 21-17.
After opening the season with four straight losses, Salzburg has won three in a row. They beat the Mödling Rangers twice, 37-0 and 35-7 before blanking the lowly Telfs Patriots 41-0. In the four first games, they were defeated 20-17 by the Graz Giants and then fell heavily being overwhelmed by the Vienna Vikings 62-0 and by the Prague Black Panthers 34-7. They then were blanked by the Raiders 30-0.
Watch live. Salzburg Ducks @ Danube Dragons, June 8, 15:15 CET (3:15 pm, 9:15 am EDT)
Danube quarterback Alexander Thury has thrown for 988 yards and seven touchdowns so far but with running back Madre London now in the backfield, the ground game has definitely picked up for the Dragons. In only two games, London has rushed for 337 yards and five touchdowns.
The Ducks offense will need to find new life today. Quarterback Kristopher Denton has only thrown for 559 yards and two touchdowns in seven games but the ground game has carried the offensive load. Salzburg is the second leading rushing team in the AFL averaging 154.4 yards a game and will need it today. Running back Camron Madden has 603 yards on 85 carries while Denton has rushed for 174 yards.
The Dragons should earn a solid win today. These two teams face each other again in the final regular season game of the year on July 6.
