LIVE STREAM: Austria – Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants v. Danube Dragons (3p CEST, 9a EDT)
The Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants play host to the Danube Dragons Saturday in a crucial game which could decide the playoff fate of both teams.
The two teams have the same 4-3 record as the Ljubljana Silverhawks who are in third in the Austrian Football League, while Graz occupies fourth and Danube fifth. The Giants defeated the Dragons earlier this season 52-33 which gives them a slight cushion. Danube would have to beat them by 20 points or more to overtake the Giants in the standings in case of a tie and take over the final playoff berth.
Each team has two games left after this. Graz will play the Vienna Vikings next week and the third place Ljubjuana Silverhawks in the final weekend of the season. The Dragons have to face the Swarco Raiders and Vikings, both on the road. No easy task for either team.
Which makes this game all the more important.
The Giants have scored 239 points in seven games this season placing them sixth in the league. They have the third best defense though allowing 25 points a game. Danube boasts the second highest scoring offense averaging 42 points a game while their defense is ranked right behind the Giants giving up an average of 27 points per game.
Giants quarterback Brandon Gorsuch is the fifth leading passer in the Austrian league having thrown for 1,616 yards and 16 touchdowns. Danube’s Dylan Potts is right behind with 1,481 yards passing and 21 touchdown passes. However, Potts is also the leading rusher in Austria with 887 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns. The top rusher for Graz is Alexander Sanz with 441 yards and nine touchdowns.
With so much at stake, this will be a game to watch.
