LIVESTREAM: Austria – Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants @ Mödling Rangers – April 21 (3p CEST, 9a EST)
The Mödling Rangers (2-1) will play host to the 1-2 Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants April 21 at Stadion Mödling as the Austrian Football League approaches the midpoint of the 2018 season.
The Giants reached the wild card round of the playoffs in 2017 and were eliminated by the Danube Dragons, quarterbacked by current Rangers QB Dylan Potts.
Graz enters the game after losing the first two games of the season to the Vienna Vikings and Swarco Raiders but rebounding to beat the Bratislava Monarchs. Meanwhile, the Rangers have won two in a row beating both Bratislava and the Traun Steelsharks after also losing to the Raiders in their season opener.
Rangers quarterback Dylan Potts has thrown for 809 yards and nine touchdowns in three games but also rushed for a league-leading 447 yards and eight touchdowns. His main target, wide receiver Roman Namdar has caught 23 passes for 403 yards and three touchdowns.
On defense, Rangers linebackers Barron Miller and Markus Bernas are the number one and three top tacklers in the AFL. Miller has 24 total tackles and Bernas 18.5.
The Graz defense will have to improve against a Rangers offense that is averaging 39.6 points a game. The Giants defense has given up 93 points in three games, although two of those games were against the best offenses in the league.
Who Graz will start at quarterback is uncertain. Robert Gallick threw for 181 yards in the win over the Monarchs while Brandon Gorsuch started the previous two games, both losses.
Interestingly, the Rangers have the best defense against the run and the worst in the league against the pass. Whoever, plays quarterback for Graz has to take advantage of that.
