The Danube Dragons will be looking to knock off the reigning champion Prague Black Panthers on the opening weekend of action in the 2025 Austrian Football League season.

These two teams met twice in 2024 splitting the series one win apiece. Danube took the first encounter 17-14 while the Black Panthers blanked the Dragons 35-0 in the second.

This is a matchup of the 2023 and 2024 Austrian Bowl winners and it promises to be a thriller.

Danube head coach Fred Armstrong will rely on Austrian quarterback Alexander Reischl who is also the Team Austria signal caller. For Prague, head coach Jayson Miller has hand picked Jaylan Wiggins (Southeastern/Florida International) to serve as his quarterback. The quarterback threw for 1,548 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 51% of his passes during eight games with Southeastern in 2022. Wiggins is also a legitimate threat with his legs adding 505 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.

Prague boasted the stingiest defense in the league in 2024 surrendering just 9.8 points a game.
