LIVESTREAM Austria: Mödling Rangers @ Graz Giants, April 16, 15:00 CET (3 pm, 09:00 am ET)
The Graz Giants (1-0) will play host to the Mödling Rangers (1-1) in the only game scheduled in the Austrian Football League over the Easter weekend.
Graz is coming off a 41-25 win over the Traun Steelsharks in their opening game of the year. Meanwhile, the Rangers downed the Telfs Patriots 20-10 to earn their first victory in Austria’s top league since May 4, 2019, when they defeated the Amstetten Thunder 35-14. Mödling suffered through an 0-8 season last year and then opened the 2022 campaign with a 48-14 loss to the Prague Black Panthers.
In last week’s win over the Steelsharks, Graz quarterback Tyrone Williams threw for 314 yards and five touchdowns with Darrell Adams (5/123 yards/2 tds) his key receiver and Johannes Schütz not far behind with seven receptions for 77 yards and also two scores. Expect Williams to continue looking for the 6’4″ Adams, his former college teammate from Azusa Pacific.
The Giants defense held its own last week, led by linebacker Sam Dickey (Kenyon Lord, NCAA Div. 3) who had 4.5 tackles on the day.
The Mödling Rangers offense will be put to the test. In two games, starting quarterback Benjamin Bräuer has thrown for just 191 yards and two touchdowns. However, Bräuer is the team’s leading rusher with 150 yards and two scores in the two games. Running back Ralph Benda is not far behind with 140 yards but so far, he has not found the end zone.
On defense, Charleus Dieuseul has 7.5 tackles to lead the team with Markus Bernas and Clemens Voit not far behind with six total tackles each. Against Traun, the Rangers only allowed 172 yards of offense, virtually all of that in the air.
This will be a tall order for the Mödling. They are facing one of the favorites for the league title with a potent passing attack led by Williams and Adams.
