The defending champion Danube Dragons (4-2) will travel across town to face the league-leading and unbeaten Vienna Vikings (7-0) Sunday, May 26 with three games left in the 2024 Austrian Football League season.

These two teams faced each other early in the season with Vienna coming out on top 14-9.

Vienna has been far and away the best team so far in the AFL, allowing just 83 points and scoring 325 so far in seven games. Their season kicked off with a 83-7 thrashing of the Patriots, then running it close with both Prague in a 28-22 victory and a 14-9 victory of Danube, before smashing the Ducks 62-0. They then walloped the Mödling Rangers 61-17 before dominating the second place Graz Giants 35-3. Last week they earned a comfortable 42-25 win over the Tirol Raiders.

Danube currently sit at 4-2 after opening the season with a close 14-9 loss to the Vikings, with their wins coming 23-7 over the Raiders and Rangers in a 38-0 shutout. Finally, they were surprised by the Graz Giants last week dropping a 28-7decision to them. They then won back to back games against the Prague Black Panthers, 17-14 and 43-39.

Although the Vikings would seem to be the favorites in this game, Danube has begun to gain momentum after a somewhat rocky start to the season. They are also the only team to have held the high-flying Vienna offense to fewer than 20 points all season.

This is definitely a game worth watching.
