LIVESTREAM: Austria – #5 Swarco Raiders @ Traun Steelsharks – May 5, (5p CEST, 11a EST)
The 3-1 Swarco Raiders, Europe #5, take the three hour bus ride from Innsbruck to Traun, Austria May 5 to face the Traun Steelsharks (1-4) as the Austrian Football League heads into the second half of the season.
The Raiders are coming off of a huge 63-21 trouncing of Poland’s Wroclaw Panthers last week in Central European Football League play. In the AFL, Swarco actually sit third in the standings with one game less played than the first place Dacia Vienna Vikings and the second place Modling Rangers.
Despite their record, the Steelsharks have proven they can score with quarterback John Uribe the fourth leading passer in the league with 1,146 yards passing and eight touchdowns. He leads Raiders quarterback Sean Shelton who is fifth with 1,117 but with 15 touchdown passes.
Mario Winter is the leading receiver for Traun with 355 yards receiving while Daniel Saurer leads all Raiders receivers with 265 yards. Steelsharks running backs Felix Stadler and Florian Nöhmayr are the fourth and fifth leading rushers in Austria. Stadler has rushed for 405 yards in five games and Nöhmayr 375. Stadler has also scored six touchdowns on the ground. Sandro Platzgummer and Tobias Bonatti top the Raiders with 221 and 219 yards respectively. Each has scored a pair of touchdowns.
Swarco is averaging almost 46 points a game in Austria while allowing only 17. The Steelsharks may be fairly productive averaging 31.2 points a game but the defense is giving up over 44 points a game.
This could be a tough day for Traun who are battling to make the playoffs. However, Raiders head coach Shuan Fatah will not be caught offguard.
