LIVESTREAM: Austria – #4 Swarco Raiders @ #3 Dacia Vienna Vikings – Sunday, April 22 (3p CEST, 9a EST)
The defending Austrian champions and #3-ranked Dacia Vienna Vikings will play host the arch rivals and #4 ranked Swarco Raiders Sunday, April 22 at Vienna’s Hohe Varte Stadion in the feature game in the Austrian Football League.
The last meeting of these European ‘giants’ was in last summer’s Austrian Bowl XXXIII where the Vikings toppled the Raiders 45-26.
The Raiders (4-0 overall) are coached by Austrian National Team HC Shuan Fatah and led on the field by quarterback Sean Shelton. They won their first three games by outscoring their opponents 155-34. Add to this a dominant 44-21 performance against the Prague Black Panthers of the Czech Republic in round one of the Central European Football League (CEFL) and it is clear that the Raiders are playing outstanding football.
The Vikings are also 4-0, having also crushed everyone they’ve thus far played. They first beat the Traun Steelsharks 64-18. They then defeated the Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants 45-32. Two weeks ago, the Vikings trounced crosstown rivals the Danube Dragons 42-7 and last weekend, they overwhelmed the Ljubljana Silverhawks 63-33.
The two teams are rated one and two in every team category. Shelton is averaging 305 yards passing per game while Vikings quarterback Garrett Safron has thrown for an average of 248.6 yards a game. However, the Vikings have an edge in the ground game as Vienna is averaging 254.8 yards rushing every game with Safron the leader with 425 yards total in four games. Swarco has rushed for a total of 201 in three games.
So football fans are in for a treat.
Tune in Sunday to watch the highest ranked teams yet to meet so far in 2018.
