LIVE STREAM: Eurobowl – Braunschweig New Yorker Lions @La Courneuve Flash, Sat. April 14, 3p (9a EST)
The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions head to Paris, France Saturday, April 14 to take on the La Courneuve Flash in the opening round of the Eurobowl tournament.
The Lions, the number two ranked team on AFI’s Top 20 enter this game as the reigning Big6/Eurobowl champions. They won the 2017 title by beating the Frankfurt Universe 55-14. It was their third straight Eurobowl crown and they are the favorites again this season, with the field of teams reduced to four.
Braunschweig has undergone a few changes with Adrian Clark from Weber State replacing Casey Therriault at quarterback and German Football League leading rusher Chris McClendon moving over from the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes. This is the first game of the season for the Lions and head coach Troy Tomlin and will be a good test.
The Flash, defending French champions, sit in third place in the French standings with a 4-2 record. After a rocky start to the season, they have reeled off three straight wins. Nevertheless, the Flash will need quarterback Paul Durand to get the passing game going. Although running back Nicolas Khandar is the leading rusher in France, and Jason Aguemon is 5th , the front seven of the New Yorker Lions will keep both neutralized if the passing game is not clicking. La Courneuve head coach Nicholas Simoneau will have his hands full in this game.
In other Eurobowl action, the Frankfurt Universe travel to Amsterdam to take on the Amsterdam Crusaders.
