The Dresden Monarchs host the Berlin Adler in their home opener and with high expectations.
The 2016 German Football League season for the Dresden Monarchs has started with with back-to-back “Berliner weeks.” After a Week 1 draw (21-21) in Berlin to the Berlin Rebels, the Monarchs are primed for the Adler, a traditional arch-rival of Dresden.
The 2016 season appears to be a rebuilding season for the Monarchs, as there there are not many players left from the 2015 & 2014 German Bowl semifinalists, 2013 runners-up.
The Adler are in a second year of a reconstruction, however, are considerably more solid than last year. That said, the Alder have struggled on offense in their first two BIG6 matches as both games against Swarco Raiders and Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns were shut-out losses.
Adler head coach Eric Schramm will start young German quarterback Paul Zimmerman but running back Emmanuel Moody will be a key for the Berlin offense to have any chance to beat Dresden. Moody is a former Monarchs and has also played for the Vienna Vikings.
The Monarchs are looking to cracking an attendance record today that was set back in 2002, and expect between 5,000 and 8,000 fans at DDV-Stadion.
