The newly promoted Ranocchi UTA host the Ancona Dolphins who travel 80 kilometers up the Adriatic Coast to renew a rivalry.
Sunday, April 30th at 2:30p CEST an Italian American football ‘derby’ is revived between the Ranocchi UTA Pesaro (1-5) and the Ancona Dolphins (2-4).
UTA Persaro running back Alessandro Angeloni reminisces about this rivarly and how heated it really is:
“For us the Pesaro match is undeniably a heartfelt game. After several years it’s great to come back to play in a derby. The last time this game took place I was still playing in the Ancona youth. Finally we are able to have this clash in Italy’s top division, and we are ready for the arrival of an adversary that is well-known to all of us. In the past many of us, played for the Dolphins. This includes myself, Piermaria, Leonardi, Fabrizi and our president Frank Fabbri.”
The Dolphins have been a constant in Italy’s top league, while American football in Pesaro disappeared for many years, before being re-founded in 2006, starting from Serie B.
Angeloni’s pride shows through:
“But now we’re back. In Pesaro and Ancona there is a healthy rivalry that a built on the great job they have done at youth level. They (Dolphins) are favorites, but we will play for our lives. “
