The Limburg Shotguns have solved their quarterback problem with the signing of veteran Raleigh Yeldell for the rest of the 2023 BNL season.
Yeldell replaces Jabari Harris who suffered a season-ending injury in a loss to the Brussels Black Angels.
Yeldell, a 6’1″, 180 lb 25-year-old native of Edgefield, South Carolina, spent the last two seasons playing for the Straubing Spiders in the German Football League. He threw for 1,808 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2022 while rushing for 710 and another seven scores helping the team to a 6-4 record and a playoff berth in their first season after promotion to the top league from GFL2 the year before. In helping the Spiders earn promotion to the top league, he was the third leading passer in GFL2 throwing for 1,807 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Prior to his two seasons with Straubing, the 30-year-old Yeldell had stints with the Mödling Rangers (Austria, 2019), Allgäu Comets (Germany, 2019), Yeditepe Eagles (Turkey, 2019), Örebro Black Knights (Sweden, 2018) and Finland’s Tampere Saints in 2017 where he threw for 1,599 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Yeldell played for four years at Newberry College (NCAA Div. II) where he was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy in his senior year while also winning Offensive Player of the Year in both the South Atlantic Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference. He set school records with 3,087 passing yards, 3,418 yards of total offense, 260 completions, 370 attempts, and a Division II-leading 70.3 percent completion rate. He accounted for 33 total touchdowns this season and led the SAC in 11 statistical categories. (10-2 season) 2016 SAC Champions.
In his four years at Newberry, he played in 40 games, starting 20, throwing for 5,499 yards and 47 touchdowns while rushing for another 1,527 yards and 22 touchdowns.
