The Kragujevac Wild Boars opened their 2018 season in impressive fashion Easter Sunday by soundly defeating arch rivals SBB Vukovi Belgrade 38-21 in front of a enthusiastic home crowd at Čika Dača stadium in Kragujevac.
Wild Boars quarterback Dalton Oliver threw three touchdown passes and ran two more in himself in a sparkling individual performance.Wide receivers Petar Goic, Stefan Đurić and Strahinja Stepovic all caught touchdown passes while Goic also kicked five extra points and a field goal.
For Vukovi, quarterback Khari Vercher threw two touchdown passes and rushed for another. Wide receivers Ivan Nedeljkovic and Nikolic Simovic each caught a touchdown pass and Zeljko Stegnjaja kicked all three extra points.
Kragujevac struck early, with Oliver finding Goic on the first possession of the game from 17 yards out to take a 7-0 lead.
Vercher responded with a scoring drive of his own, capping it with a 32 yard touchdown run, evening the score at 7-7. Nedeljkovic got in behind the Wild Boars secondary and Vercher hit him for a 60 yard touchdown, giving Vukovi a 14-7 lead, still in the first quarter.
Then the Wild Boars kicked into another gear.
Oliver finished the next series with a six yard run into the end zone to tie the game at 14-14. He followed that with a beautiful 30 yard touchdown pass to Đurić, and with the Wild Boars defense playing excellent football, Oliver struck again before the half carrying the ball in from four yards out giving Kragujevac a 28-14 lead.
Vercher wasn’t finished for the Belgrade team though, as he found Simovic from 40 yards out to pull closer, 28-21. Then Goic kicked a 40 yard field goal and the Wild Boars defense then shut down Vercher the rest of the way.
Oliver threw a 28 yard touchdown pass to Stepovic midway through the fourth quarter and Kragujevac took the first step towards a three peat.
