Koç Rams Dominate First Turkish Regular Season Game
The Koç Rams of Istanbul continued their dominance over the Turkish First Division by knocking off the ITU Hornets 35-7 in the first regular season bout of the Turkish season.
After winning the Turkish First Division last year and advancing to the Champions League Final Four, the Rams had no problem picking up where last year’s team left off.
This season’s Rams are led by new head coach Talib Wise (former Swarco Raiders standout RB/WR) and 2015’s NCAA FCS passing efficiency leader former Bethune-Cookman quarterback Quentin Williams.
Williams made his mark early on the Turkish league as he led the Rams on a quick five play drive on the first Rams possession, capped off by a Taha Çokadar five yard rushing touchdown. Later in the first, Williams hooked up with receiver Nicko Shellow for a 78 yard touchdown pass to put the Rams ahead 14-0.
The Rams defense was stout led by strong safety/linebacker Andre Whyte and inside linebacker Batur Kaplan who helped guide the Rams defense in allowing only 142 total yards from the ITU Hornets. Whyte also pitched in offensively with an eight yard touchdown scamper in the second quarter.
The second half was the Williams show. Williams finished the game with two passing touchdowns on 249 yards passing as well as another touchdown on the ground. In the third, Williams surgically picked apart the Hornets defense highlighted by a 3 yd passing touchdown on a fade route to Ivan Pavlovic. The Rams defense held the Hornets scoreless in the second half to close out the first outing for the returning champions.
