Koc Rams face METU Falcons in 2019 Turkish Bowl

The unbeaten and defending champion Koc Rams (7-0) will be looking to win their fourth straight Turkish title Sunday, July 14 when the take on the 6-2 METU Falcons in the Turkish Bowl.

The Rams downed the ITÜ Hornets 35-27 in the semifinals to advance to the title game while METU qualified by edging the Bogazici Sultans 28-26.

In the only meeting between the two teams this season, the Rams came out on top 33-23.

The Rams are making their sixth consecutive trip to the Turkish final while the Falcons are appearing for the second time in their history.

Rams quarterback David Whipple has been the key to the offense that averaged a league-best 39.2 points a game, throwing for 1,103 yards and 16 touchdowns against only one interception. Running back Joshuah Quezada scored a total of nine touchdowns and he is backed up by young Ege Suner who is averaging 15 yards a carry. The receiving corps is led by Strahinja Stepovic.

Defensively, Koc allowed on 67 points in the seven game regular season and are led by Taner Ongun and Yusuf Kaan Ozbek.

METU’s offense, which scored 175 points in seven games, is paced by running back Cam Jackson who scored a total of 11 touchdowns including three on kick returns, while also throwing for one.  Abdullah Oner added another five rushing touchdowns for the third leading offense in the league.

The Falcons defense, which surrendered 13.7 points a game, second best in Turkey, is led by Exavier Edwards who topped the league with 62 tackles, five interceptions and three sacks. The versatile Edwards also scored a rushing touchdown as well as a touchdown on a kickoff return. Defensive back Yigit Adas kicked in with 34 tackles and an interception.

The game is being broadcast live on Turkish television and will not be livetreamed.
