Japan’s X League heads into its 7th week of action with the defending champion Fujitsu Frontiers still unbeaten and still in top spot in the Inside Sport: Japan Top 12 Power Rankings.
The Frontiers survived a close call against the Obic Seagulls in the final regular season game of the season beating them 31-29.
There was other thrilling action and a few of the season’s best games. The Black Eagles came close to pulling off a thrilling upset of the Silver Star. The Rise saw several surefire catches somehow bounce out of receivers hands to cost them a big win over the Panasonic Impulse.
The Impulse survived those near misses and set up a big clash against the X League’s only other unbeaten side in week six. That team of course is two-time defending champion, Fujitsu Frontiers.
The Frontiers kept their own record perfect by downing the Obic Seagulls in a fantastic see-saw battle in front of a packed Fujitsu Stadium.
Elsewhere, the Finies rebounded from their shutout loss to Obic in week four by putting the Lixil Deers to the sword.
The Deers, like the Silver Star, are having a historically bad year. With realignment coming next season, there couldn’t be a worse time for that to happen.
Week six will sort out the final playoff standings. Here’s how we see the teams stacking up ahead of those games.
