Italy’s 1st Division releases 2022 schedule, kicks off March 5

The Italian Federation of American Football, FIDAF (Federazione Italiana di American Football), has released the 1st Division schedule for 2022.

The opening weekend of play is set for March 5-6 with three games on tap. The 13-week regular season winds up on June 2 with the Italian championship game scheduled for July 10.

In addition to the seven teams that competed in 2021 – the defending champion Parma Panthers, along with the Milano Seamen, Lazio Ducks, Bologna Warriors, Firenze Guelfi, Milano Rhinos and the Ancona Dolphins – an additional two teams have joined the Italian top league expanding it to nine teams, the Verona Mastini and the Modena Vipers. The Mastini and Vipers were promoted from Italy’s 2nd Division which the Vipers won.

A rematch of the 2021 Italian title game highlights week 2 action as the Parma Panthers will visit Milano to face the Seamen on the weekend of March 12-13.
