Is the Concussion Protocol for the NFL Good Enough?
The National Football League is the most popular sports league in the United States. The league is hugely popular, not just among fans, but among bettors as well, from across the country. However, due to the nature of the game, players often tend to suffer from concussions. For this reason, the NFL came up with a concussion protocol.
The NFL concussion protocol was created to ensure the safety and health of the players. According to this protocol, when a player displays instability after a concussion, they need to be examined by both the team doctor and an independent doctor as well. Then, the two determine whether the player is capable of playing further.
However, after a certain event that occurred only a few days ago, many are questioning if the Concussion Protocol of the NFL is good enough.
What Happened?
With the NFL season in full swing, many are excited. Matches are already taking place and drawing in huge crowds of fans. Online betting sites are doing whatever they can to promote their NFL bets. An example would be NorthStar Bets promo code, which offers new and existing customers some excellent bonuses. For the first few weeks, it seemed everything was going well. However, on 29 September 2022, something happened.
The Miami Dolphins’ quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa suffered a serious injury on the court. While Miami fans are already worried, it looks like the cause for worry is even greater, as Mr. Tagovailoa has been placed under the concussion protocol indefinitely. Mike McDaniel, the team’s coach, has looked back on the events. He has analyzed everything from the calls he made, to the play itself.
For his part, Tua was taken to the hospital Thursday night, after hitting his head. While it all went well, and Tua confirmed that he is feeling much better on his Twitter profile, many fans have called into question the validity of the concussion protocol, and whether it is enough to properly protect the players.
Is the Protocol Good Enough?
After Tua was taken to the hospital, and the NFL came under fire, they have already benched more than a dozen players. For Sunday’s game alone (10. 02. 2022), 12 players were benched due to the concussion protocol.
The question now is whether the protocol is indeed good enough. The protocol demands that two different doctors, one affiliated with the team, and another an independent, do a thorough examination of the players.
However, now, people are suggesting that this protocol is outdated and in need of some improvements. Whether the NFL will implement certain changes or remain staunch in their protocol remains to be seen. One thing is certain, however. The safety of players should be everyone’ top priority.
Concluding Thoughts
The National Football League’s concussion protocol has fallen under fire recently, due to injuries experienced by Miami’s quarterback. This controversy has prompted more than a dozen players to be benched from Sunday’s game. Obviously, the problem is not imaginary, and something really needs to be done. What that is, remains to be seen.
