Impressive Array Of Speakers At 2017 Bavarian Coaches Convention In Germany
The 12th Annual Bavarian Coaches Convention to be held at the Adidas Consumer Center in Herzogenaurach, Germany (not far from Nuremberg) Feb. 11-12 boasts an impressive list of coaches.
A record number of participants will be on hand to listen to a total of nine speakers over two days.
The list of speakers includes Bob Nielson, current head coach at the University of South Dakota. With an overall coaching record of 186-80-1 at five different schools, Nielson is highly respected in college coaching circles. In his 10 years at Minnesota Duluth (NCAA Div. III) for instance, he compiled a 100-26 record and two national championships.
Nielson, who will speak about developing quarterbacks, is also the chair of the NCAA Football Rules Committee. He has brought with him his assistant head coach Brian Mohnson whose topics will include defensive line play.
Troy Tomlin, head coach of Germany’s championship New Yorker Lions will be on hand speaking about championship football. Tomlin has led the Lions to four straight German championships along with a European title.
John Rosenberg, former head coach of Italy’s Bergamo Lions where he won an Italian championship in 2005, will speak on the zone blitz defense which many credit him with creating. John also served as head coach of the Berlin Adler, Munich Cowboys and Plattling Black Hawks. In fact, in his 16 seasons of coaching in Europe he compiled an 80% winning record both as a head coach and coordinator. While at Penn State, he coached in 11 bowl games including two national championship games. In 1982, he helped Penn State win its first national championship defeating the University of Georgia (with Herschel Walker) in the Sugar Bowl.
Other speakers include Mario Campos Neves from Germany who spent the 2016 season coaching with the University of Alabama. He has coached the Holzgerlingen Twister in Germany’s GFL II for a number of years and will speak about his experiences with the Crimson Tide. Florian Grein from Austria’s Swarco Raiders (running backs and developing youth programs) and Bernd Schnurrer from the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns (defensive line) along with Dr. Olaf Hoos from the University of Würzburg (athletic performance in football) and David Hoffman (strength training) round out the list of speakers.
