The recently appointed Director for Africa for the International Federation of American Football – IFAF – George Alwang’a, from Kenya, met with representatives from a number of African nations in late September to begin to map out the future of events, anti-doping, development, and wider cooperation across the continent.
Following the meeting, Alwang’a welcomed the input of the nations and was positive about the future:
‘I was delighted that we were able to come together to discuss an agenda for football in Africa’. Whilst the football landscape across the continent differs, there are some core areas which we can look at straight away in order to make progress.’
Alwang’a concluded:
‘What does strike me is the commitment and skill of those administrators working across each of the countries. I look forward to harnessing that as we look to build committees to drive forward IFAF’s work in Africa.’
Alwang’a also took time to pay tribute to the work being undertaken in Cameroon.
‘Congratulations to our friends in Cameroon following their recent staging of the Cup of Cameroon. I would like to pay tribute to the Bandjoun Royals for their success but also to all teams which took part.’
The first ever finals were presided over by the Cameroon Minister of Sports & Physical Education represented by Mr. Djome Gaston.
