The International Federation of American Football has issued a statement regarding the postponement of the IFAF Men’s World Championships, scheduled to be played in Germany in 2023. IFAF, in collaboration with the American Football Federation of Germany, AFVD, has decided to postpone the event until 2025.
The last time the IFAF World Championships were held was July 2015 in Canton, Ohio when the United States defeated Team Japan in the final.
The 2019 IFAF World Championships were slated to be held in Australia but were then moved to Germany, apparently for logistical reasons.
Following a risk assessment of the IFAF World Championship (M-Tackle) scheduled for 2023, IFAF can confirm that the event will move to 2025. IFAF can confirm that it will enter into discussion with AFVD on the staging of the event in 2025. IFAF can confirm that those nations that have qualified will have this qualification honored for 2025.
IFAF Director of Competitions, Roope Noronen:
“As we plan for major championships, especially those which take place over a length of time, it is vital that nations have certainty. The global economic climate makes this a time of uncertainty. As such, having conducted a full risk assessment with our partners, we believe it to be prudent to move the event to 2025 and we will start discussions with AFVD immediately.’
A spokesperson from AFVD:
‘Germany has a proud tradition in delivering great football events. We fully recognize that the current global situation provides an economic challenge for such an event. AFVD welcomes the opportunity to enter into discussions with IFAF on the staging of the event in 2025.”
