Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia planning Three Nations Cup
The Hungarian national team notched the second win in their history last year in defeating Team Slovakia in an international friendly. This was an important milestone for a team that was only formed four years ago. Their first victory was against Poland in a dramatic game in 2016.
Now the Hungarian federation is taking another step and organizing a Three Nations Cup tournament in the fall of this year involving Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
According to a statement on their website they feel the time is right:
“As the official European competitions do not provide an appropriate program for our national team, our federation has sought out neighboring countries with its plan. In the year 2018, the Czech Republic and Slovakia agreed to the idea of the cup. Thus, these federations have jointly agreed to play in the Three Nations Cup tournament.
The tournament will be played in a three-team, round robin format:
Czech Republic – Slovakia
Slovakia – Hungary
Hungary – Czech Republic
The last time Hungary played the Czech Republic was in 2015 and the Czechs came out on top in that game, 26-7.
The dates and times of the tournament will be arranged at the end of May of this year.
