The record-holding champion Budapest Wolves faces last year’s runner-ups, the Miskolc Steelers for the championship title in the Hungarian Bowl on July 14, at Szusza Ferenc Stadium in Újpest, Hungary.
This is the third consecutive year in the Hungarian Football League (HFL) when the first two seeds meet in the final. The Budapest Wolves showed a solid performance not just in the regular season but in the semi-finals as well. The offense maintained its good form. This season, the defense and the special teams improved the most. A lot of young and talented players from the Wolves’ junior program could show off their talent in 2018. In addition, Darius Lewis, Alvin Reels and Benjamin Lyons all seem to be great signings. Not to mention, there are also those top Hungarian players like Márk Bencsics, Balázs Ágota, Péter Lenner or Ádám Elek who are continuously performing brilliantly in the past few years.
The Miskolc Steelers reached the Hungarian Bowl for the third consecutive time. Although they will face another opponent from Budapest, this time last year’s silver medalist have to beat the Wolves. The statistics are in favor for the Steelers because they have not been beaten by the Wolves since 2015. Moreover, Miskolc has the best running back in the league, with Andre Whyte reaching 1000 yards in the regular season. And their defense showed a solid performance in the last few games. In addition, Vasyl Yordan is getting used to his new receivers. The Steelers was the only team to beat the record champion and they want to continue their unbeaten streak against them.
