Huge upset in Mexico as Mexicas knock off previously unbeaten Condors
The 2-3 Mexicas put together a complete game for the first time this season and dominated the Condors, beating them 27-10, handing them their first loss of the year.
Mexicas quarterback Ricardo Quintana tossed touchdown passes to Canadian wide receive Alex Morrison and running back Terrill Gourdine while defensive backs Jerónimo Arzate and Gerardo Ramírez each added pick sixes.
For the Condors, Diego Pérez thew a touchdown pass to Allan Rosado and Alberto González kicked a field goal.
The Condors opened the scoring on the first drive of the game as Pérez connected with Rosado from 15 yards out and González added the extra point for a 7-0 lead.
The Mexicas responded minutes later, still in the first quarter as Quintana found Gourdine for a seven yard touchdown to even the score at 7-7.
González booted a 52 yard field goal to give the Condors a 10-7 lead but Quintana then hit Morrison streaking into the end zone for a 20 yard touchdown pass and the Mexicas took a 14-10 lead into the break.
Pérez struggled early in the second half tossing a pair of interceptions. Neither team could gain any momentum though until Arzate picked off his second Pérez pass and weaved his way 45 yards to extend the Mexicas lead to 21-10.
Two possessions later, Pérez was picked off again as Ramírez intercepted the ball at the 40 and raced down the sideline for the game’s final touchdown.
With the win, the Mexicas move into second place in the Central Division, behind the Condors.
In other action, the Raptors blanked the Monterrey Fundidores 28-0, the Pioneros edged the dinos 9-8 and the Artilleros got their first win of the season, beating the Osos 31-21.
